MEMBERSHIP

Each January, we ask our member families to renew their membership and support of Korean Focus NW with dues of
$20.00.    This organization was lovingly created with a vision for our children.  Our goals include helping them gain
an understanding and pride of their Korean heritage, enabling them to build lasting friendships with other children
in similar family situations, involving our families with other Korean Americans in our community and offering
opportunities for their families to support their identity as Korean Adoptees in a healthy and dynamic way.

In 2007, Korean Focus NW (KFNW) sponsored a number of wonderful events including a Lunar New Year dinner, a
parent education program on adoption and school issues, a Hanji paper craft lesson, Korean language classes,
Children’s day, family campout, and a Chusok celebration.  Our board is cultivating an affiliation with the Consul
General at the Korean Embassy in Seattle and last summer, our board Chairperson was invited to Korea to help
create and recommend strategies for the Government to improve and increase their support to our organization,
adoptive families and especially our children.  Active KFNW members are establishing relationships with other
Korean Americans and their organizations which will provide valuable opportunities for our families.  Our Board is
also working with local Korean American attorneys in order to obtain 501c.3 tax exempt status this year as well –
that means dues could be tax deductible and creates additional fundraising potential!

We have some wonderful things lined up for this year – PARENTS’ nights (where both Mom and Dad are welcome!),
and an expanded Children’s day that will hopefully include some culture “classes” as well as more unstructured time
for the children to play and parents to relax.  Some of our goals include creating a mentoring program for our kids
with adult adoptees and having some more craft and adult education programs.  Our summer camping weekend and
Chusok celebration will be planned as well.

Korean Focus NW is an all volunteer organization with no paid staff.  Almost all of our revenues come from member
dues and donations.  As a member, you will receive the biennial newsletter delivered to your e-mailbox and be
entitled to priority and lower admission fees to some events.  Your dues help subsidize web and business expenses,
scholarships, and social, educational, and cultural activities.  More importantly, your generous financial support
helps guarantee a viable and promising future for Korean Focus NW.

- Dues for a family are $20 per year.  
- Membership is on a calendar year basis to facilitate record keeping for our all-volunteer
board - membership expires December of each year.
- Members joining after October 1 are paid through the end of the following year.
- Membership will not be denied anyone due to financial hardship.
