| Providing support for families with children of Korean heritage - through social activities, educational programs and cultural celebrations. |
| Welcome to Korean Focus NW, which locally calls itself “Mugunghwa,” after the beautiful and resilient Korean national flower*. A chapter of the national Korean Focus group in Washington DC, Korean Focus NW formed in 2005 from an informal group of families that had been active for many years with playgroups, social events, educational and cultural programs and support for 70-plus families with children adopted from South Korea. Our goals include outreach to newly created adoptive families and forming strong bonds between families built through Korean adoption and the Korean American community in the Northwest. *The national flower of Korea is the Rose of Sharon, or Mugunghwa as it is called in Korea. Every year from July to October, a profusion of Mugunghwa graces the entire country. They are remarkably tenacious and able to withstand many adverse conditions. Mugung means immortality, and hwa means flower, thus it is a flower symbolizing the immortality, determination and perseverance of the Korean people. |

Lunar New Year - Seol-Nal 2008 falls on February 6,7 and 8 The Rat year is a year of plenty, bringing opportunity and good prospects. People born in the Year of the Rat (1912, 1924, 1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996) are noted for their charm and attraction for the opposite sex. They work hard to achieve their goals, acquire possessions, and are likely to be perfectionists. They are basically thrifty with money. Rat people are easily angered and love to gossip. Their ambitions are big, and they are usually very successful. They are most compatible with people born in the years of the Dragon, Monkey, and Ox.
